Mostly Good Girls

Mostly Good Girls

By: Leila Sales

The higher you aim, the farther you fall….

It’s Violet’s junior year at the Westfield School. She thought she’d be focusing on getting straight As, editing the lit mag, and figuring out how to talk to boys without choking on her own saliva. Instead, she’s just trying to hold it together in the face of cutthroat academics, her crush’s new girlfriend, and the sense that things are going irreversibly wrong with her best friend, Katie.
When Katie starts making choices that Violet can’t even begin to fathom, Violet has no idea how to set things right between them. Westfield girls are trained for success—but how can Violet keep her junior year from being one huge epic failure?

My Rating ****

I have read quite a few prep school based novels and all focused on devilishly mean rich girls and steamy romances. To be honest I was expecting the same thing from “Mostly Good Girls”. By looking at the cover itself I think anyone would. I was surprised to find this book to be different. The main focus is friendship between two girls, Violet and Katie and their struggles to live up to expectations of life and others. Written from Violet’s perspective we get to experience being not only a teenager, but also an Editor- In- Chief of Prep school newspaper.

As you get to know the girls you see how different from each other they are. For Katie everything comes easy, while Violet struggles to fight for everything and always falls short. Of course elements of unrequited love, pear pressure and teenage rebellion are present.

Many times I felt like I was having a conversation with a 16 year old, which for a new writer I think it’s a great accomplishment. Accompanied by great sense of humor and witty comments the novel becomes an enjoyable read. It is definitely not your typical story.

Shiver

Shiver

by: Maggie Stiefvater

For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—is a chilling presence she can't seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human ... until the cold makes him shift back again.

Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It's her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human--or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever.

My Rating ****

I am a big fan of supernatural, tragic, love stories. I found “Shiver” to be a sensuous and intense. Stiefvater has an original and interesting take on werewolves. Such take makes it possible for the reader to imagine them living amongst us. From the very beginning you feel the deep connection between Grace and Sam, even when he is a wolf. It is an emotional bond that at times makes it difficult for them to live their lives. The author uses delicate and passionate words to describe their feelings as well as their individual experiences. I found Grace to be very intriguing, especially since she is not a werewolf…

Role of supporting character is crucial in this book. All characters are original, realistic and make the plot come together. I can definitely say that most novels don’t have such development when it comes to supporting characters, but Stiefvater proves that it can be done.

The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was the ending. I felt like a chunk of the book was ripped out and I was missing some information, however I am hoping that the sequel “Linger”, will explain all that.

Along For The Ride

Along for the ride

by: Sarah Dessen

It’s been so long since Auden slept at night. Ever since her parents’ divorce—or since the fighting started. Now she has the chance to spend a carefree summer with her dad and his new family in the charming beach town where they live.

A job in a clothes boutique introduces Auden to the world of girls: their talk, their friendship, their crushes. She missed out on all that, too busy being the perfect daughter to her demanding mother. Then she meets Eli, an intriguing loner and a fellow insomniac who becomes her guide to the nocturnal world of the town. Together they embark on parallel quests: for Auden, to experience the carefree teenage life she’s been denied; for Eli, to come to terms with the guilt he feels for the death of a friend.

My Rating ****

I LOVED IT!!!! This novel was Sarah Dessen at her best. The way she captures the essence and feel of summer is absolutely amazing. One of the characteristic of Dessen’s writing is evolving the protagonist and preparing them for the future, while giving the reader a life lesson. In all her novels summer seems to be a kind of defining stage between past and present, being a teen and a grown up.

I thought Auden had a little spice to her. She was judgmental and prejudiced against lip glossed blondes. I liked that she wasn’t all nice. She also wasn’t your typical teen, she was lacking the teenage experiences. I appreciated how the author described the change in Auden after getting to know people that she wouldn’t usually associate herself with. That brings us to supporting characters, which as always were well developed and interesting. One of the most memorable of them was Eli; handsome, very much to himself, wounded, sexy bike rider connects with Auden on more than one level. Both similar and at the same time so different. I specially enjoyed the late night quests. You can smell the love.
Overall, very strong, rich plot and great characters make up an amazing book.

That Summer

That Summer

By: Sarah Dessen

For fifteen-year-old Haven, life is changing too quickly. She's nearly six feet tall, her father is getting remarried, and her sister, the always perfect Ashley, is planning a wedding of her own. Haven wishes things could just go back to the way they were. Then an old boyfriend of Ashley's reenters the picture, and through him, Haven sees the past for what it really was, and comes to grips with the future.

My Rating: **

There is not much I can say about this novel. I liked Haven, I found her very mature for her young age. However, I found her annoying at times when it came to dwelling over the past. I was disappointed with all the other characters as well as the relationship between Haven and her older sister’s, Ashley, ex boyfriend.

What I was missing in this novel is a life lesson that Dessen later on incorporated into her style of writing.

Sarah Dessen’s sense of humor came through In the story, which I always appreciate.

One Lonely Degree

One Lonely Degree

by: C.K. Kelly Martin

Anything is possible....

Finn has always felt out of place, but suddenly her world is unraveling. It started with The Party. And Adam Porter. And the night in September that changed everything. The only person who knows about that night is Audrey—Finn’s best friend, her witness to everything, and the one person Finn trusts implicitly.

So when Finn’s childhood friend Jersy moves back to town—reckless, beautiful Jersy, all lips and eyes and hair so soft you’d want to dip your fingers into it if you weren’t careful—Finn gives her blessing for Audrey to date him. How could she possibly say no to Audrey?

With Audrey gone for the summer, though, Finn finds herself spending more and more time with Jersy, and for the first time in her life, something feels right. But Finn can’t be the girl who does this to her best friend...can she?

My Rating ***

I was really exited to read this novel. I must say I was slightly disappointed in it. The style of writing was fairly simple. The story line was relatable and the issues seemed were authentic, yet sometimes the romance and family drama failed short to impress me. The protagonist Finn is secretly dealing with a traumatic incident that involved Adam, which in my opinion could’ve been developed a bit more. I found the characters too ordinary and easily forgettable.

However, there were things I liked about this novel. The ending was surprising, even though I was hoping for something else, I found it refreshing and different from all the other YA novels.

Someone Like You

Someone Like You

by: Sarah Dessen

Halley has always followed in the wake of her best friend, Scarlett. But when Scarlett learns that her boyfriend has been killed in a motorcycle accident, and that she's carrying his baby, she's devastated. For the first time ever, Scarlett really needs Halley. Though their friendship may be tested by the strain, like a true friendship, it will endure.

My Rating ***

“Someone like You” is one of the first novels of Sarah Dessen. It was a quick but enjoyable read. The main characters were well developed and delineated. Unlike other novels, this one focused a lot on the friendship between two girls, Halley and Scarlett, as well as the significance of it in the critical times.

The issues of teenage pregnancy and death are very well portrayed. The serious moments are often lightened with humor. The plot is well constructed and fast paced. I found this story line very relatable.

However, I felt like something was missing. I can't pin point what exactly. Even though the importance was to focus on the relationship between the girls I think that other aspects of the story, some characters were a little underdeveloped.

Sing me to sleep

Sing Me To Sleep

By: Angela Morrison

True love can turn you into a whole new person. Even if you once were The Beast, you can become The Beauty. One boy can awaken the music inside of you and make your voice sing out. And then, one terrible secret can take it all away.

But as Beth soon discovers, no matter how painful love is, it's worth it. Because it's better to have loved and lost than never loved at all.

My Rating ****

“Sing me to sleep” was amazing. The author bases her story on that of a young member of the Amabile choir. It is one of the most powerful novels I have ever read in my life. Quite few times I tried to put the book down because it was too much to handle.

This was my first novel by Morrison and I cannot wait to read “Taken By Storm”. What I loved about this book is the way the author described the connection between Derek and Beth. It felt almost real. The way they longed for each other was beautiful. I really enjoyed the incorporation of music into the story line. It makes it so much more intense and relatable. I was head over hills for Derek! When you read the novel you will know why.

The supporting characters were well developed as well. I really liked Scott. He was so sweet and supportive. He proves that you can fall in love with someone, regardless of how they look. He is a true definition of friendship.

However, there were things that I disliked about this novel. Beth at times got on my nerves with her immature behavior and I hated the ending. I felt things happened too soon. For me the ending just undermined the whole point of the story.

Overall, be prepared for a passionate, intense and an emotional journey. Be sure to have a box of tissues by you. I don’t think I ever cried so much over a novel.

Rules of Attraction

Rules Of Attraction

By: Simone Elkeles

When Carlos Fuentes returns to America after living in Mexico for a year, he doesn’t want any part of the life his older brother, Alex, has laid out for him at a high school in Colorado.

Carlos likes living his life on the edge and wants to carve his own path—just like Alex did. Then he meets Kiara Westford. She doesn’t talk much and is completely intimidated by Carlos’ wild ways. As they get to know one another, Carlos assumes Kiara thinks she’s too good for him, and refuses to admit that she might be getting to him. But he soon realizes that being himself is exactly what Kiara needs right now.

My Rating ****

Prior to reading “Rules of Attraction” I had some mixed feelings about it. I was excited but I was afraid that it might be a poor attempt to repeat the success of “Perfect Chemistry”. I couldn’t be more wrong. I’ve read this novel within a matter of hours. Simone Ekles has a very unique style of writing. I find the alternating narration very compelling. It lets you get both sides of the story, which gives you a better understanding of the characters.

“Rules of Attraction” has a very similar plot to its forerunner. I loved the book; nevertheless few dots don’t seem to connect. I felt like some “issues” that Carlos was faced with were slightly forced into the story. On the other hand, Kiara’s life was so normal. In the first installment Brittany just as Alex had her own fair share of problems. I found Kiara’s story a bit refreshing. She is the complete opposite of Brittany. Carlos and Kiara have so much in common, but at the same time they are the completely opposite.

Their relationship is edgy and filled with sexual tension. There were so many funny moments in this book; I couldn’t stop laughing out loud! Carlos made my heart melt, especially when he spent time with Brandon.

I also enjoyed the little glimpse into Alex and Brittany’s relationship. Even though we know they end up together, it was nice to see the “in between” period.

Overall, Simone Ekles did it again. Characters are memorable, exciting, and the epilogue is very satisfying. The hot, sexy romance makes this novel irresistible. I cannot wait for the third installment featuring the youngest Fuentes brother, Luis.

I Heart You, You Haunt Me

I Heart You,You Haunt Me

by Lisa Schroeder

Girl meets boy.

Girl loses boy.

Girl gets boy back...

...sort of.

Ava can't see him or touch him, unless she's dreaming. She can't hear his voice, except for the faint whispers in her mind. Most would think she's crazy, but she knows he's here. Jackson. The boy Ava thought she'd spend the rest of her life with. He's back from the dead, as proof that love truly knows no bounds.

My Rating ****

“I Hear you, You haunt me” is a tragic love story about two teenagers, whose love is so strong it survives death. The whole book is written in verse, which makes every experience so much more powerful and intense. It’s written in a sort of poetic way, which combined with heartrending loss makes up a beautiful and haunting novel.

I don’t want to give anything away but what I am going to say is that this book is sort of a guide to moving on without actually forgetting the person you have lost. It takes you through all of the steps; guilt, denial, isolation and grief. Ava’s memories of Jackson are so strong that at times they seem more real than present to her.

Overall, this is an amazing novel which teaches us that there is hope after a tragedy. Very well written, beautiful language, a must read.

If I Stay

If I Stay

By: Gayle Forman

"Just listen," Adam says with a voice that sounds like shrapnel.

I open my eyes wide now. I sit up as much as I can. And I listen.
"Stay," he says.

Choices. Seventeen-year-old Mia is faced with some tough ones. Stay true to her first love-music-even if it means losing her boyfriend and leaving her family and friends behind? Then, one February morning Mia goes for a drive with her family, and in an instant, everything changes. Suddenly, all the choices are gone, except one. And it's the only one that matters.

My Rating *****

“If I Stay” is a moving and unforgettable story about a girl named Mia, who in one day has to come to a possibly heartbreaking conclusion regarding her life. Through out the book past and present are constantly compared which reinforces the magnitude of that decision. Memories and painful details help draw a very violent, realistic and painful at times picture.

Music plays a large role in this novel. People often express their feelings through music and I think Forman uses this to show the intensity of Mia’s experiences.

Mia’s friends and family bring the story to a full circle. Understanding her relationship with them helps us see just how hard Mia’s decision really is. The way her grandparents are portrayed made me cry, the connection between Adam and Mia made me long for love. Adam is sweet, loving and intense. All characters in this novel are very well developed, full of realism and love. I also loved how accepting and understanding Mia’s parents were.

“If I Stay” is a coming-of-age love story with a twist. I was stunned and amazed how good this novel is. Definitely a must read

Evermore ( Immortals Series)

Evermore

by: Alyson Noel

For fans of P.C. Cast and Stephenie Meyer, a paranormal young adult novel about a psychic girl who falls in love with an immortal boy.

My Rating *****

If are a fan of S.Mayer, P.C. Cast or B. Fitzpatrick you’re going to love Noel’s writing. All supernatural/ teenage love stories seem to have the same train of thought; however there is something about Evermore that stands out for me. Evermore is addictive!! I couldn’t put it down. I even read it while walking down the street.

First of all, the intensity with which the book is written is absolutely indescribable. While I was reading it a felt every emotion, almost ever touch. I cried and laughed out laud. Noel pens a well-detailed story that makes it easy for the reader to visualize both the characters and the scenery. The way the author describes Damon as this dark, mysterious, unbelievably beautiful and sexy man makes you want to go and search the world for a guy like him. From the very first moment he is introduced in the book you are unconditionally, irrevocably in love with him and so is Ever…..

Overall, amazing, full of suspense, mystery, and tense building romance easily one of the best novels I have recently read.

By: Sarah Dessen

Rogerson Biscoe, with his green eyes and dark curly hair, is absolutely seductive. Before long, sixteen-year-old Caitlin finds herself under his spell. And when he starts to abuse her, she finds she's in too deep to get herself out...

My Rating ***

I have read a very promising review of this book and let’s just say I am slightly disappointed. I love Sarah Dessen, however I felt this novel started off way to close and when the climax came the book was almost over. Having said that,
I loved that this time she approached a teenage romance from a different angle, darker and a bit more controversial. The language was great and as always the author didn’t leave out her amazing usage of metaphors.

Like in all Dessen’s novels connecting with the characters and putting yourself in their shoes was extremely easy. I felt Caitlin’s pain as she dealt with her sister abandoning her, her mother’s pressure, school and of course Rogerson.
For many teenagers this story might hit very close to home, but for some reason it will give you hope for a better tomorrow. I would recommend this book to many.

This Lullaby

This Lullaby

by: Sarah Dessen

Sarah Dessen's captivating novel introduces readers to a girl who believes her heart is made of stone-and the boy who proves her wrong.

Raised by a mother who's had five husbands, eighteen-year-old Remy believes in short-term, no-commitment relationships until she meets Dexter, a rock band musician.

My Rating ****

“This Lullaby” was a pleasant read. Like all Dessen novels it’s a modern romance story with bunch of twists and turns and as always very realist and relatable.

It is narrated by a very cynical and sarcastic Remy, which honestly it’s the best part of the protagonist. What really kept me glued to the book were actually the supporting characters. I fell in love with the friendship that the girls had and how different each of them was. However, the best was of course Dexter. He's quirky, funny, awkward, and maybe a bit dorky. For me he brings this novel to a full circle.

Family plays a big role in Sarah’s stories and at some points in this book you will be surprised how big…. The ending will be a surprise as well… however I wish it would be a little more developed. I feel like it was cut short.

In conclusion “This Lullaby” is a romantic, heart warming book, that showed how learning to love yourself can help you accept others around you.

The Truth About Forever

The Truth About Forever

by:Sarah Dessen

Macy's summer stretches before her, carefully planned and outlined. She will spend her days sitting at the library information desk. She will spend her evenings studying for the SATs. Spare time will be used to help her obsessive mother prepare for the big opening of the townhouse section of her luxury development.
But Macy's plans don't anticipate a surprising and chaotic job with Wish Catering, a motley crew of new friends, or . . . Wes. Tattooed, artistic, anything-but-expected Wes. He doesn't fit Macy's life at all&150so why does she feel so comfortable with him? So . . . happy? What is it about him that makes her let down her guard and finally talk about how much she misses her father, who died before her eyes the year before?
Sarah Dessen delivers a page-turning novel that carries readers on a roller coaster of denial, grief, comfort, and love as we watch a broken but resilient girl pick up the pieces of her life and fit them back together.

MY RATING *****

By now I have read almost all of the novels written by Sarah Dessen and they never disappoint. However, “The truth about forever” is by far my favorite.
What makes all Dessen novels special to me is the way she writes. All the characters are relatable and realistic. Reading about them and their problems, makes us reflect on our life.

Sarah Dessen has a way of intertwining real life with summer romance in this book that draws the reader in on so many levels. Her writing style is wonderful, and it's close to impossible to not get sucked into the very lives of her characters. While I was reading this book, I laughed and cried with Macy and her experiences with Wish Catering; and I found myself falling head over heels for Wes just like she was.

I would recommend this book to anyone, this is definitely a MUST read!

Spells

by: Aprillynne Pike

In clean, fresh prose, never wilting in momentum as some middle volumes do, this second installment stays fragrant throughout. Laurel's a faerie, and faeries are plants. On her back, a blossom sprouts annually; she binds it down under her shirt to keep the secret. Briefly visiting magical Avalon, where she was born (but which she doesn't recall), she studies plant lore and faerie society. As is traditional in supernatural romance, two boys want her: human David, warm and devoted, and faerie sentry Tamani, sizzlingly attractive and pining for Laurel's return. Trolls stalk and entrap Laurel and her loved ones in the human world, seeking revenge and the gateway into Avalon, while a slick human woman with a special-ops team helps defeat trolls but rouses Laurel's suspicion. As in Wings (2009), Pike brazenly codes physical deformity and asymmetry as evil, and her engagingly clear prose sometimes blunders into floridness when describing Avalon. Among the current cornucopia of supernatural romances (and despite the presumably unintentional humor of a heroine who literally tastes like nectar), though, this one blooms.

Leaving Paradise

Leaving Paradise

by: Simone Elkeles

Caleb Becker spent the past year in juvenile detention.

Maggie Armstrong spent the past year in hospitals and physical therapy.

Two teens who were scarred one fateful night are going to have to face their greatest challenge yet- meeting up with each other again.

What happens when the person who damaged you for life… becomes the person you trust the most?

My rating ****

Ever since I have read “Perfect Chemistry” I set a goal to read all the books by Simone Elkeles. I love her work. One of the best things about this book is that told through the alternating perspectives of Caleb Becker and Maggie Armstrong, which brings the story to a full circle. What I love about the characters in Elkeles’s stories is that none of them are perfect. All of them are painfully real and misunderstood. I guess I’m a sucker for the troubled cases.

I think it only took me four hours to read this book. I couldn’t put it down! With every page the book became more intriguing, mysterious and confusing at the same time. The characters went through so much and at the end of the day they have nobody else but each other, which in my opinion was a little bazaar since throughout the book you are convinced that Caleb is the reason they ended up that way.

What made that story for me were the supporting characters. The mother that would sacrifice everything for her daughter, the mother that cares only about appearances, while having a secret of her own, the sister with a secret, and my personal favorite, an older lady, that keeps everybody glued together.

What I disliked about the book was the ending, and I know there is a sequel coming this summer ( “Return to Paradise”), but I wish I would’ve gotten the closure I needed in this novel.

“Leaving Paradise” is a beautiful, captivating, mysterious and sexy novel. It made me laugh and cry uncontrollably. Loved it!

Just Listen

Just Listen

by: Sarah Dessen

Annabel Greene is the girl who has everything. At least, that’s what she portrays in her modeling shoots. But Annabel’s life is far from perfect. Her friendship with Sophie ended bitterly, and her older sister’s eating disorder is weighing down the entire family. Isolated and ostracized at school and at home, Annabel retreats into silent acceptance. Then she meets Owen- intense, music- obsessed, and determined to always tell the truth. And with his guidance, Annabel learns to just listen to herself and gains the courage to speak honestly. But will she be able to tell everybody what really happened the night she and Sophie stopped being friends?

My rating: ***

For the past four months every time I went to the book store I kept looking at this novel but I was never fully convinced to purchase it. I know that Sarah Dessen is considered one of the best YA authors, however I always thought that the theme of her books wasn’t my thing. But I decided to give it a shot.

“Just listen” was a great novel. From the plot to the characters everything seemed very realistic. I think this novel confronts the real life issues that are still in a way taboo subjects, like eating disorders and rape. Also, the way the characters react to different situations is very similar to the way some of us react. People choose to keep things to themselves, not confront the issues, hoping that one day they will go away, just like the protagonist Annabel. I think because of that, the author chose to let us know the real secret almost at the end of the story, which in my opinion is a great way to build the suspense. Along with that, Whitney’s eating disorder, lost friendships and new exiting romance drew me more and more into that novel.

I loved the male character, Owen. Since I am a big fan of music myself I felt more of a connection to him. For me he was “the perfect guy”, honest, handsome and mysterious. He was the opposite of Annabel and I think that’s the reason they got along so great. However, I wish that their relationship was developed a little more than it was.

I think that this novel is in a way a lesson in someone else’s life. It teaches you that what we see on the outside is not always true, that there isn’t much difference between lies and keeping the truth hidden, and that today’s world puts a lot of pressure on teenage girls. Just Listen by Sarah Dessen is a story about secrets, consequences and relationships that keeps you wanting more with every page. Good read, would recommend.

Hush Hush

Hush, Hush

by: Becca Fitzpatrick

For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch came along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment.
But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure who to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.
For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.

My rating *****

The first thing that drove my attention to this novel was the book cover. I love it! It looks mysterious, sexy and interesting…just like the novel itself. This book reels you in and its almost impossible to look away. The author managed to include all the important factors, which combined make up for an amazing plot. There is suspense, mystery, forbidden love, and of course dark, sexy quintessential bad-boy.

Patch is a very interesting and memorable character. From the very beginning of the book you know there is something a little off about him but you can’t just pinpoint it. Your gut tells you that he is not all good but you can’t help falling for him. Every time he was mentioned you couldn’t help but grin like a school girl. The way the author described the chemistry between Patch and Nora is thrilling. The back and forth bickering, flirting and desire makes up for a great read. Nora is very realistic and safe, which balances very well with Patch’s character.

I loved the plot. This novel is packed with a lot of action. Every time I thought that I had it all figured out new twist completely threw me off. “Hush, Hush” is definitely one of my favorite books.

I have read many reviews that compare this book to Twilight, which I think it’s absolutely inaccurate. Those two novels have nothing in common, besides having supernatural characters. in my opinion this novel is more similar to “Fallen”, and after reading both of them I think “Hush, Hush” is better.

I know that there will be a sequel “Crescendo” coming out sometime this year and usually I like series but with this one I wish the author would stop after this. The reason I say this is because since the Twilight series every YA author is pushing to write a series to compete with it and that’s just not going to happen. So, I would hope they would stick to writing great novels not series.

My rating ****

Every once in a while you stumble across a book that makes you re-think your whole life. Everything that you do, all the relationships you have and what is your goal in life. For me, “Before I fall” did just that to me.

One the beginning I was thinking that reading the same day over and over might be a bit boring and cliché, but each day was different, exiting and intriguing. One of my favorite parts of this novel was the friendship between the girls. It was the kind of friendship each of us would die to have, however, at the same time it is so realistic. None of them are perfect, just like us. However, they all bring out the best in each other. I have read many reviews which disliked the protagonist, Sam.

I think these people are lying to themselves. All of us, doesn’t matter how old we are, at some point we were all bullies; mean, selfish, heartless humans. The most important point in this novel is the change. The change that occurs inside of Sam , while she relives the same days seven times.

This was an amazing read. I could talk about this novel for hours. It makes us realize the importance of life, and every moment. Life is precious. Every decision we make if affecting other people, not only us. Of course, we can’t live our lives thinking about other people all the time but sometimes we should consider it.

Turns out, he's got a secret or two that he's not telling Courtney. And it has everything to do with why they broke up, why they can't get back together, and how, in spite of it all, this couple is destined for each other

My rating ****

When I first came across this novel I was a little bit skeptical about it. After reading the synopsis, let’s just say I wasn’t intrigued. However, after a little bit of research I found some positive reviews, so I decided to give it a read. Im glad I did.

It was a quick and enjoyable read. The characters and details are well- developed. The unique style of writing allows you to grasp the whole picture of the story. I love how the chapters are divided into Jordan and Courtney chapters as well as present and past. Courtney and Jordan are totally different from each other and maybe that’s the secret to their chemistry. She is the ultra-organizer, perfectionist, who has to have everything done on time. Jordan on the other side takes his life day-by-day; he is carefree and loves rap music. The author makes a reference to a popular networking site myspace, which makes the book very relatable and realistic.

One of the things that I loved the most about this novel is that it was hilarious!! I couldn’t stop laughing. I think everyone of us can relate to that “I hate you, but I love you” situation. What makes the plot much more interesting are the secrets, family ties, and best friends.

However, I wished the ending was developed a bit more…

But when Willow meets Guy, a boy as sensitive and complicated as she is, she begins an intense, life-changing relationship that turns her world upside down.

Told in an arresting, fresh voice, Willow is an unforgettable novel about one girl's struggle to cope with tragedy, and one boy's refusal to give up on her

My rating *****

For me this novel was like a journey to discover the truth about self-injury. This is a first for me. Never before i have read such a intense and compelling story about a cutter. On the begining i wasnt sure how intersted i might be in this particular theme, i was afraid i might abandon this book before giving it a chance. Im glad i didnt, because from the first chapter i was hooked.

I think the characters in this novel are well developed, interesting, and very mature despite their age. I was trully moved by the relationship that Willow and Guy had from the very first meeting. Julia Hoban is a very descriptive writer so everyscene in this book is graphic. I love it.

Great read, looking forward to more novels from this author.

North of Beautiful

North of Beautiful

by: Justina Chen Headley

It’s not hard to notice Terra Copper.
She’s tall, blond, and has an unbelievably gorgeous body. But what most people in Terra’s tiny, stifling Washington town notice is her unmistakably “flawed” face. Terra secretly plans to start a new life by leaving her small town and escaping on an East Coast college, but is pushed off-course by her controlling father. When an unexpected collision introduces Terra to Jacob, a handsome but odd Goth Chinese boy who immediately understands her battle with feeling different, she is forced in yet another direction. With her carefully laid plans disrupted, will Terra be able to find her true path?

My rating: ****

Wow there is a lot that i would like to say about this book. First of all this book is like nothing i have ever read. This novel shows you a world from a different perspective. It talks about the true meaning of beauty; not the physical one, but the true , inside beauty.

Jacob and Terra are two such different individuals that are so similar at the same time. Both are facing the harsh opinions of society on their apparel, what separates them is how they deal with it. Jacob is care free, doesn't really care about what people think, when Terra does everything to satisfy the people around her and leads her life by what people think of her.

Without giving too much away the novel also shows how married woman are overshadowed by their husbands and how they loose themselves in marriage. I love how thru out the book you see the transformation of the female characters .

Anyway, this is a great novel, that teaches you not only about people, but also maps, other cultures and geocatching (something i never heard of before this book) but also about love, compassion and human strength. Good read.,

Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo

Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo

by: Christiane F.

Fourteen-year-old Christiane lives with her mother and little sister in a small apartment in a typical multi-storey concrete apartment building in a dull neighbourhood in the outskirts of West Berlin. She's bored and lacks things to do and is sick and tired of living there. She hears of Sound, a new disco in the city center, called the most modern discothèque in Europe. Although she's legally too young to go to the disco, she dresses up in high heels and make-up and asks a friend from school to take her. At the disco she meets Detlef, who is a little older. He is in a clique where everybody is experimenting with various drugs. At first she takes pills and trips, but gradually she becomes drawn deeper into the drugs, eventually ending up as a heroin-addict and prostitute.

My rating *****

This novel crafted with an astounding level of realism. It tells a story of a 14 year old heroin addict and her her downward spiral into heroin addiction and prostitution. The way the book is written it seems like you are looking through Christiane's eyes, every filthy toilet, every creepy, slimy john whom she must trick with for drug money, every moment of terror and desperation.

At this age, everything is felt so intensely so when Christiane falls for Detlef it feels for her like loosing him would mean the end of the world for her. The story really takes of when they start using together. What i like about this book it that it doesn't glamorize heroin or anything else those kids are going thru. It shows you the reality of life and the consequences you have to face when you go down that road.

Brilliantly written, mesmerizing story makes it impossible to keep your eyes away from the book. I love it, love it , love it!! Best book ever written about drug addiction!!

Twelve

Twelve
by: Nick McDonell

Twelve follows White Mike, a dropout drug dealer, through the week between Christmas and New Year's 1999. Twelve is not a coming-of-age story, because its kids never had a childhood. Their parents are off on holiday in Bali or business in Brussels, leaving hired help to look the other way as the kids stay home alone in their multimillion-dollar town houses, partying with drugs and sex and, in the end, much worse. From page one, the pace is set toward an apocalyptic climax. In the penultimate party scene, when we thought we couldn't be surprised, we are shocked. And throughout the book, where there is an excess of everything but hope, we are filled with that very emotion as White Mike struggles for nothing less than his soul.

My rating ****

Nick McDonell does have a nice writing style. It is crisp, clean, and driven by contemporary language. He catches the inflections and slang of how high schoolers talk, think, and act. The book was written when McDonell was in high school , which only makes you itch with anticipation for what comes next. If he can write like that when his only 18 imagine what he can do in ten years?

The way the book is written it seems more like a real life conversation rather than novel. It gives you a feeling that the author is leaving something out, a bit of mystery which makes that book much more enjoyable and interesting.

As White Mike answers beeps and deals film canisters filled with pot, Twelve -- which gets its title from another drug he occasionally deals --skips to stories of others. His friends, their friends, the people he deals to, then back again, with the overall effect a quick building of tension as White Mike and the others race toward a shocking fate they cannot predict. The transitions between the stories sometimes hang on mere moments, on the smallest of details.

The book is mostly written from a perspective of White Mike, who never actually used drugs so it's a nice change to see a world of drugs from thru sober eyes. The story is not really surprising or very challenging but very entertaining.

Great book, very quick and interesting read. Worth reading.

Fallen

Fallen

by: Lauren Kate

There's something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.
Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price's attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He's the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.
Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce—and goes out of his way to make that very clear—she can't let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her.
Dangerously exciting and darkly romantic, Fallen is a page turning thriller and the ultimate love story.

My rating ****

Many people compare Fallen to Twilight.... and I'm not sure how i feel about that. Yes, i will agree that both books speak of forbidden love and supernatural abilities, but i think that's where the similarity ends. There is also an element of a "love triangle", but the two stories are completely different.

Fallen is the kind of book you just cant put down. It has a very interesting plot and the way it plays out. However, it does start of rather slowly and then picks up the pace too quickly for my likings. Once the action starts every few paragraphs you have to stop and take it all in.

Fallen is full of mystery, suspenseful events and of course romance. I truly fell in love with the way Lauren Kate described Daniel. He is this lonely, "bad boy" and at the same time, he is a sensitive artist. From the very begging of the book you know that Daniel is different, special and definitely not human, however i couldn't put my finger down on what he was. Of course, the title itself gives you kind of an idea, but the book keeps you guessing till the end. The way the author described the undeniable chemistry between Daniel and Luce is truly amazing. I don't want to give too much away, you'll just have to find out on your own.

If you enjoy fantasy, mystery, suspense and romance this is a book for you. And prepare yourself because the sequel Torment is being released in August of this year. I, myself can not wait.
